APC Chieftain Blames Former President Obama for Kamala Harris’ Election Defeat
A prominent member of Nigeria’s All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamu Garba, has controversially claimed that former U.S. President Barack Obama is responsible for Vice President Kamala Harris’ recent election loss to Donald Trump. Garba alleged that Obama orchestrated a “palace coup” against President Joe Biden, seizing control of Biden’s primary election victory and transferring it to Harris, leading to her subsequent defeat.
In a series of posts shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, November 7, Garba accused Obama of undermining Biden and using Harris as a proxy to maintain influence in U.S. politics. He criticized Obama’s active role in recent political campaigns, contrasting him with previous U.S. presidents who, according to Garba, stepped back from political life after their terms.
“People like former President Barack Obama make black people appear extraordinarily cheap and resentful in the eyes of the world,” Garba wrote. “After serving as the President of the greatest country in the world for eight years, Obama still refuses to stop campaigning, being on the frontlines and taking sides. This is contrary to the over 40 men who served as presidents since the office was established in 1789.”
Garba further claimed that Obama’s “lust for power” damaged Harris’ campaign, as Obama’s attempts to control the Biden administration created internal divisions. He suggested that Harris’ defeat reflects broader discontent within minority communities, including Black, Hispanic, and Asian Americans, regarding Obama’s legacy.
Garba also accused Obama of following a political model seen in certain African nations, where leaders attempt to maintain influence after their official term ends. “Obama wants to be a typical sit-tied model of African leaders,” Garba argued, stating that Obama’s actions have ultimately harmed his reputation and that his continued involvement has led to significant criticism from various U.S. communities.
He concluded by advising Harris to place blame on Obama for her electoral losses. “If Kamala is looking for someone to blame for her catastrophic failures, she should point all her ten fingers at Barack Obama,” he wrote.
Garba’s statements have sparked discussions and debates across social media, with some supporting his critique of Obama’s post-presidential involvement, while others view the claims as an attempt to shift focus from other factors in Harris’ election defeat.
