Hamas Responds to Trump's 2024 Presidential Victory, Calls for End to Gaza Conflict

Following former President Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, Hamas issued a statement on Wednesday urging his administration to work toward ending the conflict in Gaza. The statement comes after reports that Trump requested Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to conclude the ongoing conflict by his inauguration on January 20, should he be re-elected, according to Fox News.

Citing the election results, Hamas stated that Trump is

"required to listen to the voices that have been raised by the U.S. public for more than a year regarding the Zionist aggression on the Gaza Strip."

Hamas also called on the incoming administration to

"work seriously to stop the war of genocide and aggression against our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank."

The group demanded an end to military support and political backing for Israel and recognition of Palestinian rights, including

"freedom, independence, self-determination, and the establishment of their independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital."

Echoing these sentiments, Basem Naim, a spokesman for the Hamas Political Bureau, told Newsweek that while Trump’s election is a domestic U.S. matter, Palestinians seek

"an immediate cessation of the aggression against our people, especially in Gaza"

and support for their pursuit of an independent state.
Naim concluded by calling for an end to

"blind support for the Zionist entity 'Israel' and its government,"

which he said jeopardizes regional stability and Palestinian aspirations.
